Starting therapy can be really overwhelming. Sometimes we feel like we have to have an answer before we start. I believe that you don’t need to have all the answers. You can find them along the way, even if the answer is that there is no single answer. Therapy is an experience that helps you to understand yourself, your life, and your actions in a new way. It allows you the opportunity to explore areas of your experience that you might not have been comfortable exploring previously.
As a therapist, I tend to be direct and straightforward. While there is plenty of room for exploration and spelunking into your history, sometimes there is a need for clarity. That means that when we’re struggling, we can talk about the struggle and where miscommunication might be occurring. It also means that there will be times when we’re going to directly touch on a topic that might be uncomfortable for you. If you don’t want to continue on that path, that is always your decision, and we can accept that. We get to explore the entirety of your experience, while always respecting your boundaries.
I work in a variety of modalities. We address which therapeutic interventions I think will be helpful during our treatment planning phase and as an ongoing conversation. If you have a modality that you’re interested in, let me know. We can talk about it. We’re a team, we’re figuring this out together. You’re the subject matter expert of you.
